I don’t promote myself as a paid Substack writer because I don’t have the bandwidth or discipline right now to publish on a set schedule that would make it worthwhile for anyone to open his or her wallet. So far I have treated Substack as a place where I could haphazardly post long-form content and reap the dopamine rewards of likes, restacks, and mutually rewarding exchanges in the comments section of my own and mutually respected Stackers.
I do know, thanks to Substack metrics, that many of my readers really enjoy the aviation content. I’d like to do more of that, but producing original stuff with the supporting audio/visual media that makes it pop is a huge time sink.
However. I have a side gig teaching ground school to pilot candidates. The class I teach is aimed at prospective private and sport pilot fixed wing students, although I am certificated to teach any level up to ATP. (Although I am not as yet qualified to teach instrument ground school — a deficiency I am toiling to remedy.)
I have, over the course of the years since COVID forced all my teaching online, developed a substantial library of instructional videos and documentation archives. I am establishing a paid level to this Substack that buys access to that content.
For reference, my employer charges $400 per student to enroll in my class. (I get paid $20 an hour for 36 instructional hours…you do the math.)
